New Movies In Theaters December 13th - Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters December 13th - Rotten Tomatoes

There are two new films in wide distribution this week:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (PG-13, 73% positive reviews, 3900 theaters). The second in the Hobbit trilogy.

A Medea Christmas (PG-13, unreviewed, 2200 theaters). The latest adventures of Tyler Perry in drag as his most famous character.

Saving Mr Banks, the film about making Mary Poppins, will be in 15 theaters, but will actually go wide NEXT week.
Box office:

The two new films will probably finish 1-2. (It is possible that Tyler Perry's film will finish third, behind Frozen, but the experts don't see it that way. They predict a comfortable padding of $5-8 million between the two.)

The latest Hobbit film is expected to take in somewhere between $75 and $90 million. Its predecessor, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," grossed $84 million on opening weekend, and the experts think this one will fall just a notch.

Tyler Perry's Medea film should gross in the $25-30 range.
