The Broncos, who have now clinched their division and a first round bye in the playoffs, need 18 points next week to break the record for the most team points in a season. The only remaining question is whether they will obtain the first seed or the second. The #1 seed is important because it confers the permanent home-field advantage. If the Broncos secure that, it means they would never have to play the Patriots in Foxboro, where the Pats are nearly invulnerable (7-0 this year, including a win over the Broncos). The Broncos are one game up on the Patriots, but they can't afford to finish with the same record because the Pats beat them head-to-head, so they need either a Bronco win or a Patriot loss next week. A Patriots loss is highly unlikely (they play the Bills in Foxboro), so the Broncos will not be able to slack off against the Raiders.
