Box office report: 'Ride Along' runs over 'I, Frankenstein'

Box office report: 'Ride Along' runs over 'I, Frankenstein'
"I, Frankenstein had a sizable budget, estimated at $65 million, yet opened with just $8.3 million," which was only good enough for a disappointing sixth-place finish.

The only other new film in more than 10 theaters, the much maligned Gimme Shelter, grossed a mere $720,000 in about 400 sites.

August: Osage County, Meryl Streep's answer to Mommie Dearest, expanded to another 360 theaters, bringing it up to 2400 altogether. It grossed $5M, which was good enough for eighth place. That marked its 3rd consecutive week in eighth place or better.

Four Oscar hopefuls expanded to about 1000 theaters each: Dallas Buyers Club ($2M); Gravity ($2M); 12 Years a Slave ($2M); and Nebraska ($1.4M). Buyers Club had the highest average per theater among that group.
