Dylan Farrow: Woody Allen's Adopted Daughter Details Alleged Abuse

It is possible, I guess, but I don't believe her. Does the former Dylan Farrow believe her own accusations? Yes, I believe she does. Of course that's just my unsupported opinion, but if I'm right, it means she is not lying, per se.

But ...

A few facts you should know about this alleged 1992 event:

1. Woody Allen voluntarily took and passed a lie detector test administered by a former FBI agent who had been in charge of the Bureau's Polygraph Quality Control Program.

2. Mia Farrow refused to take a polygraph test regarding her role in planting the story and/or editing Dylan's filmed recollection.

3. The team of doctors assigned to investigate the case were split in their evaluation. Oh, they had no doubt that Dylan's story was false, because she kept changing it every time she told it, and "those were not minor inconsistencies." The panel split on WHY she was lying. One possibility was that the accusations were "made by an emotionally disturbed child and then became fixed in her mind." The other possibility was that "she was coached or influenced by her mother." The doctor who headed the investigation said, "We did not come to a firm conclusion. We think that it was probably a combination."

4. Allen supposedly molested Dylan while he was engaged in a custody/support battle for her. Right. He has been accused of many faults in his lifetime, but utter stupidity has never been one of them.

5. Woody Allen has since been allowed to adopt two daughters with his existing wife. Do you think the states with jurisdiction over those cases believed him to be a child molester?

In short, there is a mountain of circumstantial evidence supporting Woody's position that he did not molest Dylan (I've listed only a small part of it), and there is literally nothing of any kind to support the child's recollection.

Most of the animosity and suspicion directed against Woody Allen stems from his relationship with his wife, Soon-Yi, the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn. That relationship began while Allen was still the long-time boyfriend of Soon-Yi's legal mother, Ms. Farrow. At the time Farrow discovered the relationship, Soon-Yi was somewhere around 20 (her actual age is not known, but she must have been born in the 1970-1973 period), while Woody was some 35-38 years older. This relationship seems to prove to everyone that Woody Allen was, in fact, a child molester. Or something.

There are also some facts you should know about this relationship:

1. Soon-Yi was not Allen's daughter, adopted daughter, or step-daughter.

2. Soon-Yi never looked upon Allen as a father figure.

3. Farrow and Allen were never married. They did not have a common law marriage. They never lived together. In fact, Allen never once stayed the night at Farrow's apartment!

4. Soon-Yi was a legal adult when she began her relationship with her future husband. Woody Allen's relationship with her is not in any way tantamount to child abuse, and cannot be viewed as establishing some kind of likelihood that he would abuse a 7-year-old child. Almost all heterosexual men are sexually interested in 19-year-old women at one time or another, but almost none of them are interested in 7-year-old girls. There is no connection.

5. Allen was in love with Soon-Yi and married her in December of 1997. They are still married, some 16 years later.

Woody's relationship with Soon-Li is great fodder for jokes, and I've made more than my fair share of them, but it does not mean or suggest that he is a pedophile.
