NCAA Tournament printable bracket 2014: Gators, Wildcats, Shockers earn top billing - College Basketball - Ohio

The Virginia Cavaliers come out of the pack to take the last #1 seed!
Everyone knew Florida, Arizona and Wichita State would be in the pole positions, but nobody expected Virginia to be there until their brilliant play in the ACC tournament, in which they beat away a challenge from Duke to add the tournament championship to the regular-season crown. Meanwhile, the other challengers for the open #1 seed, teams like Michigan, Wisconsin, Duke and 'Nova, faded.

The #2 seeds went to Michigan, Wisconsin, Villanova and Kansas. The biggest humjob probably went to Michigan State, which pulverized two #2 seeds in the Big Ten tournament, but could get only a #4 seed.

Louisville got the best deal, in my opinion, because they are the #4 seed, but pulled Wichita State as the #1 in their bracket, which gives them an excellent chance to win the 1/4 match-up if both teams make it that far. If you've read this far you know that Wichita State has not played a single top team all year. If that game were played on a neutral court today, Sagarin's computer ratings would make Louisville a 6.5-point favorite.

The Big Ten has six teams in the field. In addition to the teams mentioned above, Ohio State pulled a #6 seed, while Nebraska and Iowa snuck in as 11s.

The oddest team in the tournament is Cal Poly, which entered their conference tournament with a 10-19 record, but ran the table in the tourney. Sagarin has them ranked #174 in the nation, thirty spots lower than Boston College, which finished 7-24. They have an outside chance to win their first game, a play-in against Texas Southern. Southern almost lost their own tournament final to Prairie View, which finished the season 11-23. I guess it doesn't matter whether Cal Poly or Texas Southern wins that game. The winner will presumably go on to get slaughtered by Wichita State.
