There are two new films in wide national distribution this week:
Godzilla (78% positive reviews, PG-13, 3900 theaters). You know what this is.
Million Dollar Arm (55% positive reviews, PG, 3000 theaters). This is a Disney film featuring John Hamm as an old-fashioned sports agent with a creative idea to find new clients: why not import a cricket star from India to become a baseball pitcher? This is based on a true story. One of the kids he discovered is back in India, but the other, Rinku Singh, a lefty with 92 MPH velocity, is still in the minors, still hopeful of playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Box office:
Godzilla is expected to take the #1 slot with a ... er ... monster opening, estimated around $70M.
Million Dollar Arm will be an also-ran. It should gross in the teens, which should win fourth place handily, maybe third with a little luck.
