There are three films in various levels of national distribution this weekend:
Neighbors (rated R; 77% positive reviews; 3200+ theaters) is a raunchy Seth Rogan comedy about about some young suburban marrieds who find themselves sharing their block with out-of-control fraternities.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return. (Rated PG; 9% positive reviews; 2600+ theaters). I guess you can figure out what this is about. It's animated.
Mom's Night Out. (Rated PG; 18% positive reviews; 1000+ theaters). Women need their husbands to watch the kids for "Mom's Night Out." Hilarity ensues - in theory.
Box office:
The experts feel that Neighbors and Captain America will battle it out for first place with totals around $40 million, which will be a very impressive debut for Neighbors, given that it appears to be written for 16-year-old boys, who will not be allowed in because of the R rating.
Legends of Oz should be in high single figures, and will probably battle it out with The Other Woman for third place.
Mom's Night Out, which will not be in many theaters, will find it rough sledding, but I suppose it may pull in some Mother's Day business. Or not. Low single figures.
