It's not clear where the images actually came from. Esquire's press release says: "The images in question, staged with photographer Jake Versoza, were never used in the magazine itself, and in most cases, were never even in the possession of the magazine."
If the magazine never had them, then who did, and how did the hacker know that the photos were someplace other than at the magazine? Sounds like some insider talked way too much - or maybe the leaker himself was an insider. Furthermore, if Esquire never had the pictures, how can they now be claiming that their rights have been infringed? Wouldn't these pictures belong to someone else (presumably the photog)? If his hard drive was hacked, does that mean that thousands of his other photos were also compromised?
The comments on this blog say that there are many more of Ellen still unreleased, but that could be the usual internet bullshit. Either way, there seems to be much more to the story, and we probably have not heard the end of it.
