This week involved a major shake-up.
Undefeated Arizona, which had been unranked, leapt all the way to the top ten with their victory over Oregon, and undefeated TCU soared from #25 to #9 by defeating Oklahoma.
Baylor and Notre Dame did not rise to 3-4 in the AP poll, although they did rise to #3 and #5 in the coaches' poll. Mississippi State and Ole Miss took over the 3-4 spots in the AP poll (actually they tied for third), with Baylor and Notre Dame at 5-6.
Alabama, despite their loss, clung to the #7 spot over Michigan State, presumably because the Spartans also have a defeat (earlier in the season, against Oregon). The Spartans did rise to #8.
All the traditional powerhouses with one loss are now stacked from #11 to #18. The upstart East Carolina takes the #19 spot.
NOTEWORTHY: FSU is NOT the unanimous choice in either poll, despite the losses from all the other teams which had formerly received #1 votes. Many voters are now finding reasons to vote for Auburn, while Mississippi State and Baylor (!) receive some stray votes! In fact, FSU is barely #1 in the AP poll, narrowly edging Auburn 1461-1459.
