Exodus: Gods and Kings is Ridley Scott's epic version of the Moses story. It's rated PG-13 and will be in 3500 theaters. The reviews are poor (27% positive, and the experts think it will come in just below $30M.)
Top Five is the Chris Rock movie about the life of a comic. (He wrote and directed, and also stars.) Although the critics love it (89% positive reviews), and audiences in Toronto thought it was hilarious, Paramount is releasing it in fewer than 1000 theaters. I'm not sure why they have chosen this strategy, as it seems like a lost opportunity to me, but maybe they are planning to expand it if it performs well. Despite the small number of theaters, the film is expected to gross about $10M and finish in third place this weekend. It is rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, crude humor, language and drug use (all the things that make life worth living). Unfortunately, the nudity is provided by background strippers and uncredited prostitutes.
