Some of these are nitpicking when there are far greater snubs to consider, even if you restrict the debate to the Best Picture Oscar. Two of the best films of the millennium (Eternal Sunshine and Memento) weren't even nominated. Singin' in the Rain wasn't even nominated in a year when an insipid circus movie won the Best Picture Oscar. Oliver won Best Picture in a year when The Lion in Winter was nominated and 2001: a Space Odyssey was not. People once thought that films like Crash, Driving Miss Daisy and Chariots of Fire were worthy of a Best Picture statuette.
