As it turns out, the Pope has a graduate degree in chemistry. As an undergraduate, Santorum also took a science - political science.
Santorum is a Catholic, which means it's probably not wise of him to piss off the pope. If I remember right, Catholics believe that excommunication is a one-way ticket on the express train to hell.
