It looks like Theo has done it again. Best baseball exec ever?
These guys may or may not win this year (I'm pulling for them. 107 years is a long wait.), but they will be strong for years to come. Kyle Schwarber is 22, Kris Bryant 23, Anthony Rizzo 26, Jorge Soler 23, Starlin Castro 25, Addison Russell 21, and Javier Baez 22. Superstar pitcher Jake Arrieta is only 29.
Weird stat o' the day: Adam Wainwright never appeared in a winning game after his achilles injury. He pitched just fine, but he appeared in six games and the team lost all of them. I have no idea how solid he is right now, but in hindsight, he may have been more useful to the team if he had started a game or two because - well, because their other pitchers had little luck against the Cubs and he's Adam Freakin' Wainwright. (His lifetime record in Wrigley Field is 9-1.) He reported earlier that he wasn't in shape to pitch deep into the game, but three or four strong innings would have been a blessing, given that the Cubbies scored four runs in the second.
