The first Major League Baseball game was televised in 1939!

Although the signal was broadcast from the Empire State Building and could be received within a 50-mile radius, only 3000 homes in that area had TVs.

Red Barber made the call. The Cincinnati Reds beat the Dodgers at Ebbets Field in the first game of a twin bill.
