This happened several months before his first Ed Sullivan appearance. Unlike the people who produced some of the Sullivan appearances, ABC and Berle's producers did not avoid full-body shots. Most people (including me until five minutes before typing this) don't realize that the "above the waist" censorship didn't occur until the third appearance on Sullivan's show!
