This link kinda led me on a wild goose chase. I thought "How could they leave George M Cohan off the list?" In one of his most famous songs he wrote , "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy ... a real live nephew of my Uncle Sam, born on the Fourth of July," and his entry in the songwriters' hell of fame says he was born July 4, 1878, and his 1942 obit in the NY Times agrees.
But ...
Apparently his claim to that birthdate is controversial. PBS and other sources peg it as July 3rd! Neither is official. The 4th is supported by his family, but the 3rd is supported by his baptismal certificate. Baptismal certificates are not legal documents, and are often riddled with errors. Baptisms usually take place several weeks after birth, and the priest usually writes in whatever dates and names you tell him.
Bottom line - we can't say for sure.
