Ben Carson just referred to slaves as 'immigrants'
Like all new Americans from another continent, they dreamed of a better life.
Unlike the others, the better life they dreamed of was the one they had to leave.
By the way, the OED defines an immigrant as "a person who migrates into a country as a settler." Pretty sure that definition requires voluntary participation.
