The original post is not working for reason or reasons unknown, but this is a screengrab.
Sure there were some errors made by journalists. They are journalists, not physicists. The only really important thing on there is the statement that there is no collusion. Trump conveniently keeps forgetting that his son already confessed!
The released emails are four pages long. Some of the most notable parts:
- Goldstone wrote to Trump Jr. that “The Crown prosecutor of Russia…offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father."
- Goldstone also wrote that the information “is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump."
- Trump Jr. writes to Goldstone on the chain, "if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."
Agree with you about the notable parts of that email exchange. And that makes really notable what actually happened at the meeting, but is rarely reported: the Russians actually DID produce the documents they said they had 'proving' DNC and Clinton campaign involvement in soliciting and receiving foreign-source funds. A clear felony. And then the really notable part; Trump, Jr does nothing with it. Doesn't tell the FBI. Doesn't tell the press (what campaign hides dirt on the opposition?). Nada. Collusion is one thing, it's certainly bad optics. But it's no crime. After all the Obama campaign very publicly 'colluded' with the German government to obtain their support for his huge Tiergarten rally. Concealment of a felony on the other hand, which seems to be what the June, 2016 meeting is really about, does concern criminal activity. Oops.
ReplyDeleteThe conservatives keep repeating the mantra that collusion is not a crime, but that's misleading. The act of colluding with someone to break a law IS a crime. It's just not called "collusion." Trump Jr. has fully confessed and provided the evidence against himself for the crime of conspiring to break a federal election law. Needless to say he will not be prosecuted, since this is a federal crime and therefore within the blanket pardoning powers of his father.
