Former Trump aide tells loved ones of plans to plead guilty, cooperate with special counsel
In the letter obtained by ABC News, Gates writes to family and friends “despite my initial desire to vigorously defend myself, I have had a change of heart,” Gates explained. “The reality of how long this legal process will likely take, the cost, and the circus-like atmosphere of an anticipated trial are too much. I will better serve my family moving forward by exiting this process.”
Needless to say, this move must have Manafort shivering in his shoes, but I guess it's only fair to point out that none of Paul Manafort's unsavory activities have anything to do with the 2016 election, other than to show the close relationship between Russia and Trump's key people.
The one blemish it leaves on Trump is the opportunity for news shows and late-night talkers to show clips of Trump saying he only hires the best people. Well, he hired Manafort, a man who who seems to have committed just about every federal crime possible except re-broadcasting a game without the express written permission of major league baseball.
The best part: Manafort didn't know how to covert documents from PDF to Word documents he was forging, so he created a paper trail mailing them back and forth.
