High-scoring Villanova defeats Kansas, will face Michigan for all the marbles
That will be quite a challenge for Michigan. Villanova will be favored by about 7, with an over/under around 145, meaning that the bookies are expecting the game to be about 76-69.
'Nova is the highest-scoring team in the nation. In the five tournament games, they have scored 87-81-90-71-95 against some of the country's best teams. They have won each game by at least 12 points.
All of that makes you wonder how they could have lost four during the season, but in fact they didn't even have the best record in their own conference! They won every non-conference game, but were only 14-4 in Big East games, while Xavier was 15-3. Villanova easily won both of the face-to-face match-ups with Xavier but, illogically enough, dropped four games to inferior conference opponents, including an embarrassing loss to St. John's, which was 4-14 in conference play.
