JUST IN: Stormy Daniels' lawyer says that his client has been "physically threatened," but we have to watch 60 Minutes to hear the details.

"Watch the thrilling conclusion next week, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel ... "

This is precisely the way Trump himself would promote the show if the shoe were on the other foot. Everybody is a reality TV star now.

Here's the way it will go down if it is like everything else that has happened in the past two years.

1. Trump's camp will deny the claim

2. Evidence will emerge to support the claim. Trump's camp will then rationalize it. Trump supporters will forget that Trump's circle had been denying the whole thing, and accept the rationalization.

3. Evidence will then emerge to refute the rationalization. When that spin is effectively spun out, Trump's camp will deflect by saying the Clintons (or Obama, or their people) did something as bad or worse. Trump supporters will forget the previous denials and rationalization, and jump on the "but Clinton" bandwagon.

4. Facts will be presented showing that the Clintons and Obama did not actually do that thing, or anything like it, and that it would not even make sense for them to have done it.

5. Trump's camp will ignore those facts and continue to claim there is some scandal there by repeating the key words as a mantra, ala "Uranium to Russia." Trump will emerge unscathed, with the same tepid approval rating he has always had, because nobody's mind will have changed.

6. Trump will do several more outrageous things to push this one out of the news cycle.

7. Repeat as needed.

  1. It's sad. I never bought into the American Exceptionalism bullshit, but I always thought we had a little something that would prevent us from going down the pathway of authoritarianism. Now it's very easy to see how that could take hold here, when such a significant portion of the population actively embraces fear and ignorance.

  2. Amen. I always thought Americans were innately ignorant.
