Justice Alito exposes the hypocrisy of political double-standards

"The case of Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky concerns a Minnesota statute that broadly bans all political apparel at the polling place." Alito did a brilliant job in his questioning.

  1. Back when it was actually relevant I received a "Vote for Pedro" shirt from my sister (we were both big Napoleon Dynamite fans). Unthinking I wore it to vote in a local election and I was told that I was not allowed to wear it as it was endorsing Pedro.

  2. What the article frames as "liberal hypocrisy" is a law that has been on the books and unchallenged for 100 years, across administrations and legistatures held by both parties.

    1. The article sucks, but Alito really destroyed that lawyer, who seemed utterly unprepared to argue before the Supreme Friggin' Court. You'd think he would have faced that line of questioning in a simulation before taking his act on the road. Alito demonstrated that if the lawyer who prepared to argue that very issue in the highest court could not avoid his own biases about what is or isn't political, it is not reasonable to expect a drone poll worker to do so.

Some countries have avoided the whole issue of poll intimidation by creating on-line voting systems. It seems that we should also have the wherewithal to do that.

    2. It isn't the law that's being challenged. It's the double standard of enforcement.

    1. True. The article is crap, but Alito's takedown of the lawyer was impressive.
