Trump team makes the midterms about saving his presidency
This is, as usual, nonsense. They hope to capitalize on people's general misunderstanding of the term "impeachment." It is very possible indeed that a House with a Democratic majority might vote to impeach Trump, but there is essentially no possible way he will be removed from office. Impeachment is the same as indictment, simply a presentation of charges for a trial. The trial would be held in the Senate and the President can't be removed without the vote of 67 senators.
It is unlikely that Democrats would have any more than a narrow edge in the next Senate. In fact, the GOP could easily hold its current edge, or even improve it. Of the 35 seats up for re-election in 2018, only 9 are currently occupied by Republicans. With the GOP controlling 51 seats now, their lowest possible total after the election is 42 - and that's if they lose EVERY single one of the 35 elections. (That is not going to happen.)
Nothing that I can imagine would cause 67 senators to vote to convict/remove Trump. Think about it. If Trump sold Alaska back to Russia, then he and Putin jerked each other off live on Fox News, there would still be at least 34 senators unwilling to remove him from office. He's here to stay - at least until 2020.
Oh, look on the bright side - he could quit or die.
ReplyDeleteThose of us who prefer more work and larger paychecks are in no hurry for Trump to go anywhere.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'll admit, if I depended on the taxpayers for my income, health care, or cell phone, I imagine I wouldn't be a fan.
Just curious - what color is the sky in your world?
