Louie Gohmert suggests an FBI agent must be of low character if he cheated on and lied to his wife

Louie Gohmert suggests an FBI agent must be of low character if he cheated on and lied to his wife.

I think we all know that Gohmert is not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but you'd think he would at least be aware of who currently occupies the White House!

  1. Gohmert is a lawyer and was a judge.

  2. He must have been sharper when he was younger. (I assume.) Long before there was a President Trump, Gohmert has been widely known as America's dumbest congressman.

  3. Gohmert set the bar very low, no doubt. But I do believe Michele Bachmann limboed under.

  4. I agree that he probably shouldn't have gone there, but he was dealing with a guy who was peddling a transparent load of codswallop and whose history of lying to people's faces didn't involve an ordinary affair but one with a colleague with whom he was working on two of the most sensitive FBI investigations in history. Also, you'd have to be horribly unfair to give Gohmert the title of dumbest Congress member in a class that includes such worthy contenders as a woman who believes Neil Armstrong planted the US flag on Mars and there are still two Vietnams cooperating "side-by-side," or a man who thinks that Guam floats and will tip over if we send too many troops there. (And please spare me the BS that they were "misquoted" or only joking or were "speaking metaphorically." No, they weren't. They're just idiots.)

    1. By Republican logic: (1) no Republican should have been on the Benghazi committee, because nobody is possibly capable of doing an honest investigation of a person they dislike; (2) nobody should ever believe Donald Trump on any subject, because he has consistently lied to his wives.

Equally true, Donald Trump cannot be investigated, given that is is impossible to find anyone with an advanced degree, FBI or otherwise, conservative or liberal, who could pass a polygraph while saying Trump is a decent human being.

Plus, the entire point of the questioning is ludicrous, since Mueller removed the guy from the investigation as soon as he knew there was even a suggestion of a conflict. If anything, these guys are demonstrating Mueller's integrity.

    2. I don't know the exact timeline, but do we know if Mueller fired Strozck as soon as he knew?

Back to your first paragraph, Scoop...I don't think we should reduce the texts to simple "dislike". Big difference between disliking someone, and a lead investigator texting his mistress, or anyone for that matter, about using his power to stop a freely elected President.

    3. "anyone for that matter, about using his power to stop a freely elected President."

I take it you are referring to Gowdy's Benghazi investigation? The big difference being that Gowdy's investigation was PURELY about stopping Hillary and had no basis in reality, while the Russia investigation was based on facts, as the guilty pleas have proven.

  5. According to the Republicans, the FBI was trying to get Hillary Clinton elected.

The way they did they was to drag out public discussion of the investigation into her emails, an investigation which resulted in no charges or indictments.

Meanwhile, the investigation of Trump campaign members, which was going on at the exact same time, was never publicly mentioned once during the election. That investigation has resulted in 35 indictments or plea deals to date, and still counting.

That's some bold strategy, Cotton. Only a Trump voter could come up with something that stupid.
