NCAA tournament bans Indian-themed mascots, nicknames, or logos. The committee also recommended that schools follow the examples of Wisconsin and Iowa by refusing to schedule contests against schools that use American Indian nicknames. The team most significantly affected is Florida State, which can keep Seminoles for the football team, since there is no NCAA tournament in football, but would have to make changes to the basketball program. Illinois (Fighting Illini) is another major college affected by the ban. (St. Johns and Marquette have already changed, if you hadn't noticed.)

  1. Does this mean there will never be another NCAA tournament game in the state of Indiana? How about Illinois? Or Michigan? Or Minnesota? Or Wisconsin? Or Tennessee (an indian word for, I think, "What did you say, paleface?")?
    Stupid fucking PC assholes.

  2. Once again, I'm compelled to point out the irony that this meeting was held in INDIANAPOLIS.

  5. It seems to me that the culture has now declared that we can only make fun of one ethnic group - the Notre Dame team can still be the Fightin' Irish!

There are no Pummelin' Polish or Battlin' Bulgarians. No more Warriors or Braves.

Am I wrong? Are there any other ethnic groups mentioned in team nicknames?

So why is it that we can stil ridicule the Irish with those cute little drunken leprechauns 'n shit?

  6. Trojans & Spartans, maybe?

Not to mention all the non-ethnic social and vocational groups. Has the NCAA no sympathy for the world's Boilermakers, Miners, Cornhuskers, Volunteers, Knights, Aggies, and Mountaineers?

Shouldn't religious people be offended by a school representing itself with a Demon or a Devil?

How in the world can Indians be off-limits, but Cowboys are perfectly OK?

The biggest thing the NCAA doesn't seem to realize is no school intends for THIER OWN FREAKIN' MASCOT to be insulting. That would be self-defeating. Why would you pick, AS YOUR OWN FREAKIN' MASCOT, something you have little respect for?
