The Straight Dope: "How do you have lucid dreams?"

1 comment:

  1. Well, I kniw the article is not bullshit, because I almost always know that my dreams are just dreams.

Of the ones I remember, I always have some glib response to every threat, like "Hey, bugger off, it's just a dream, how can you hurt me?" When I see attractive women, I just go right up to them and remove their clothing because - hey, what can they do about it?

I don't, however, have that ability to go back and resume an interrupted dream that I had been enjoying. THAT would be a great gift!

    On the other hand

    1. I suppose I only remember a very, very small percentage of dreams - usually only the ones I was dreaming when my sleep was interrupted for some reason. So there must be a vast body of sub-conscious items there of which I am not aware, and that may include dreams where I think they are real.

    2. When I was a child, I used to have dreams which seemed real, just like (I suppose) everyone else.

    3. When I was a younger man, I would even get (momentarily) confused between dreams and reality. I'd think, "yeah, I did that ... wait ... I just dreamt it."

I don't remember when it all changed, and my dream-self started being aware that he was simply a character in dreams. Maybe around age 40.
