Obama was a lousy poet.
Well, there go his credentials for the Presidency. In every Presidential election since 1884, the winner has been the guy who wrote the best poetry while in his teens. In that year, James G. "Spenserian Sonnet" Blaine lost a close election to Grover Cleveland, who wrote only two half-hearted poems on non-consecutive occasions.

There is one other exception if one considers "third party" candidates, the case of the 1924 defeat of "Rhymin' Bob" Lafolette
