Daily Box Office for Friday, April 27, 2007

Daily Box Office for Friday, April 27, 2007
Friday was a disaster, plain and simple. Nic Cage's gimmicky actioner - about a guy who can see a little bit into the future - was summarily rejected, grossing only $2.4 million in 2700 theaters, about half of expectations. The Condemned did even worse, pulling in only $1.3 million in 2300 theaters. Kickin' It, with 0% positive reviews, came in with pretty close to zero dollars to match. The only new release to catch any attention was The Invisible, which will probably finish second for the weekend and gross about what the analysts expected.

It seems that Disturbia will hold on to the top spot for a third consecutive weekend, but will do so with less than ten million dollars. The top twelve may finish with less than sixty million, and will again be some 25% below last year.

Maybe people are saving their money to see Spider-Man 3, which opens next week, or maybe they just see a line-up fo films that do not merit their hard-earned cash.
