Shortcut to Happiness (a.k.a. The Devil and Daniel Webster) (2007)

Shortcut to Happiness (a.k.a. The Devil and Daniel Webster) is finally being released this week.

At least that's what Box Office Mojo claims, although they do not have a theater count. If you missed it, and that would not surprise me, it's a modern version of The Devil and Daniel Webster, with Jennifer Love Hewitt as The Devil. (I'm not kidding.) It also stars some pretty big names (Tony Hopkins as Daniel Webster and Alec Baldwin as Jabez Stone), so it is surprising to see it sit on the shelves for five to seven years. (The earliest IMDb review was written August, 2002, and some observers have placed the actual filming as far back as 2000!) One might suspect that it has some major problems.

Mr. Baldwin also directed the film, but the scuttlebutt is that it has been recut several more times since Baldwin left the project, and that Hannibal Lecter has come in to record some additional voice-over.
