The first was the 1925 Tri-State Tornado (which seems to have been named rather poorly, since the article says it "whipped through four states.") The other was the New England Hurricane of 1938, which killed nearly 700 and left 63,000 people homeless.Neither of those compare to the Spanish Flu epidemic in the WW1 era, which killed fifty million people, according to the article.
