This is the third time he has reached the 50 mark. That's not a record. Ruth and Sosa have four each. Ruth had at least 54 all four times, and Sosa had three in the 60s. Trivia: there have only been six seasons in history with more than 61 homers. Sosa has three of them. It just so happens that the other three came in the same years as Sosa's three, so he did NOT lead the league in any of the three years!
