Francona used his "close game" formula in which nobody gets the ball but the starter, Okajima, and Papelbon, and it worked again. Okajima was perfect. Papelbon allowed only one single. Between them they struck out 6 in 3 and 1/3. One wonders how often Okajima can go two+ innings. The Sox pitchers could not get Holliday out. He was 4 for 4, but the rest of the Rockies went 1-for-25!
The Sox will not find the Rocks to be such pushovers at Coors, where they went 51-31 in the regular season and are 7-1 since then. They scored 478 runs at home (best in the NL, second best in the majors), and batted .298 in Coors as a team. Holliday turns into Rogers Hornsby at Coors, where he hit .376 with 25 homers and 82 RBI.
