"I arrived on South Beach about 7:30 p.m. and, using professional journalism skills, began gauging the mood of the people from an average distance of about 15 feet. (Some of the people were carrying snakes.) Based on these observations, I would say that the public mood was restless. This could be explained by concern over the economy, healthcare and Iraq. Another possible explanation is that the nightclubs weren't open yet."
