I've seen big discrepancies between the critics and IMDb scores before, but The Air I Breathe must have set a record for films reviewed by 20 or more critics:
- 10% positive reviews (per Rotten Tomatoes)
- 8.7 at IMDb. (If you are not familiar very with IMDb, 8.7 is good enough to make the top fifteen of all time.)
The film grossed only $25,000 in a week, and none of its seven theaters held it over for a second week, so the IMDb score is probably "stuffed." I watched the film last night, and I thought it was so-so. It's Crash lite: high aspirations, resulting in some good moments but also a lot of pretension. Actually it's a combination of Crash, Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense. All good films, but that combo doesn't work. I love Guinness, orange marmalade, and red-hot mustard. But not together. Anyway, it's not anywhere near as good as the IMDb score indicates, nor anywhere near as bad as the critics would lead you to believe. But then how could it be?
