"The Oscars Must Die"

I agree with the people who say that the Oscar telecasts are almost uniformly awful, but the fact of the matter is that they draw in a massive viewing audience. About forty million Americans watch it each year. It pulls in shares over 30 in the big cities. The year Titanic won, the Oscar telecast drew 55 million viewers in the States. It's also immensely popular overseas. That means a mammoth profit. It's the Super Bowl for chicks ... so the show ain't goin' away any time soon.
