The full report will be in tomorrow's page, since the predictions are all for a four-day holiday weekend. The big surprise of the weekend is the street dancing movie, which is currently in second place overall and will finish far above expectations. In fact, it is holding on to a slim lead for FIRST place in the "average per theater" column. The weekend numbers are off some twenty million dollars from last year, but this year's $119 million total for the top twelve can't be compared meaningfully to last year's $141 million. This year's new movies opened on Thursday to capitalize on Valentine's Day, thus siphoning off revenues from the weekend. On the equivalent Thursday last year, the top films took in about $7 million, compared to some $27 million this Thursday. Voila! The twenty million has been found.
