ESPN - Indians vs. Blue Jays - Recap - August 10, 2008

Cliff Lee goes 16-2

I don't mean to jinx Cliff, but in the entire history of professional baseball there has never been a 20-game winner with a winning percentage of .900 or better. Never. Lee could do that with four more wins without a loss.

Sidebar: the closest was Greg Maddux, who went 19-2 one year.

NOTE: there has been a case when a TEAM played .900 ball for a starter with 30 or more starts. In 1995, the Mariners went 27-3 in the games started by Randy Johnson. Johnson himself also had a .900 percentage, but he did not reach 20 victories. He was 18-2.
