The Weekend Warrior's box office analysis: Oct. 24 - 26

We're approaching Halloween, and that means we're going to see the most terrifying sights of the year, films that inflict excruciating torture on their audiences ... like High School Musical 3, which is expected to dominate the weekend's box office by taking in about as much as the next four films added together. It is expected to open with about $46 million, which means it has an outside chance to achieve the best October opening ever. (And it may well do that, because many theaters are already reporting sell-outs for the Friday screenings.) The record is currently held by Scary Movie 3 at $48.1 million.

On a slightly less horrifying plane, there is the latest torture porn from the Saw franchise, which may take the #2 spot with a respectable total in the twenties. Another new film, Pride and Glory, may take third, but will be far behind those two.
