The expected four-way battle doesn't seem to be shaping up. The Proposal seems to be doing better than expected, and it handlily won Friday. Up fell harder than expected, finishing fourth - and well out of third, but it may do better for the entire weekend than for Friday alone, because it is the kind of film that does better in matinees.The critically reviled Year One battled The Hangover for second, and those two films finished in a virtual tie.
