When I watch this kid pitch I'm reminded of a famous Yogi Berra quote. When the Yankees faced Koufax in the 1963 World Series, a reporter asked him if he was suprised that Koufax went 25-5 that year. Summing it up as acutely as ever, Yogi said he understood the 25 wins perfectly, but couldn't figure out how Koufax could have had five losses. Understandable. Koufax beat the Yankees twice in that fall classic, both times against Whitey Ford, he of the ten World Series victories and lifetime .690 winning percentage. So anyway, when I watch that crazy whiffle ball stuff that Lincecum throws at 95 MPH, I'm never wondering about the 11 guys he strikes out, but about the other 20 or so who somehow make contact. That kid has some crazy-ass movement on the ball. How he gets that much spin and that much velocity out of his 170-pound frame is a total mystery to me. It's like watching the legendary Steve Dalkowski reincarnated and able to find the strike zone. (Dalkowski was about the same height and weight.)
