Hey, Pete. Groovy threads, man.
The Big Red Machine had their best years in 1975 and 1976 with 108 wins and 102. When they picked up Seaver in June of the 1977 season, people said it wasn't even fair, but Seaver's move to Cincinnati turned out to be kind of a disappointment. Tom himself was as Terrific as advertised. He started 1-2, but ended up 14-3, with eleven wins in his last twelve starts, ten of those complete games! But while he was doing that, the team dropped to 88 wins, a distant second place behind the Dodgers. Excepting Seaver, the Reds' pitchers failed them. Seaver's WHIP was below 1.0, but no other starter was below 1.3. As a staff they allowed 725 runs, compared to 582 for the Dodgers.
