Kutcher's No Strings Attached did win the weekend, but with a tepid gross of 20 million dollars. Everything performed according to expectations except The King's Speech, which did better than anticipated. It didn't drop at all from last week, thus passing True Grit on the charts and holding on to fourth place. In fact, it narrowly missed climbing into third! It has now grossed $58 million, which is damned impressive for a talky period drama which has never been in as many as 1700 theaters. It is in the fewest theaters among the top ten grossers. In a semi-related story, No Strings Attached passed the 50% barrier and now has more positive reviews than negative, making it the only Kutcher film which can make that claim. For a future Natalie Portman making a survey of her career, this film will probably represent a low point in her increasingly impressive resume. For Kutcher, on the other hand, it will probably be the pinnacle upon which he can stand and view the ever-expanding spectacle of his mediocrity.
