You may not remember that the popular series Saved by the Bell was a re-tooled version of an earlier show called Good Morning, Miss Bliss. (In syndication, the Miss Bliss episodes have sometimes been run as part of the Saved by the Bell rotation.)
The earlier show's plots centered on Hayley Mills, who played the title role, a teacher who had immigrated to Indiana from the UK. Many of the major SBTB characters were already in place, like Lisa, Principal Belding, Zack Morris, and the dreaded Screech. Miss Bliss ran for 13 episodes on The Disney Channel. When NBC picked it up, they decided to make it hipper, funnier and less preachy, so they re-named the show, eliminated Hayley Mills, moved the location to California, and focused on the students rather than on the teachers. You know the rest of the story, which ultimately led to Showgirls.
Trivia: Although Saved By The Bell seemed to be in the exact same school building as the original episodes from Good Morning, Miss Bliss, that physical plant had mysteriously migrated from Indiana to California!
