De Gaule an egomaniac? No. That's not the De Gaulle I knew - a humble, soft-spoken, eternally diplomatic wallflower, and a man almost devoid of self.
In other words, I don't see much in these revelations that's really very surprising. Her opinions seem to reflect what any of us would have thought if we had been in her position and had been able to opine candidly. Some of her opinions seem unduly catty, but none of them seem too far off base.
As for the most controversial one, well, I don't think LBJ had Kennedy killed, but I can certainly see how people could consider that possibility. If you were a police investigator on a murder case, you would always ask, "Who had the most to gain?" In the case of JFK's murder, that would turn up LBJ as your prime suspect. Then you would note where the crime was committed, and then you'd ask yourself, "Was Lyndon capable of doing such a thing?" There would be no reason to rule him out. Put it this way: if new evidence were unearthed today that demonstrated conclusively how Lyndon arranged to hire Oswald and/or others, would you be dumbfounded, and think "That can't possibly be true," or would you think, "Yeah, that probably makes more sense than any other explanation I've heard"?
