He played JFK in PT109 and won the best actor Oscar in the late sixties for "Charly," an adaptation of the distinguished short story "Flowers for Algernon," which was about a mentally disabled man who is transformed into a genius by an experiment, only to regress to his former self. The 1959 short story was expanded into a novel in 1966 and a film script two years later.
