Box Office: Puss in Boots: $34M Opening

Box Office: Puss in Boots: $34M Opening

It did set the all-time record for a Halloween weekend, but it was expected to do considerably more. The CinemaScore was A-, so you can expect it to hold up reasonably well.

Timberlake's scifi thingy took third place with about $12 million. "Moviegoers issued In Time an unenthusiastic B- CinemaScore grade, which may prevent the film from finding the same kind of legs that time-jumping thriller Source Code ($14.8 million opening, $54.7 million total) enjoyed earlier this year."

Johnny Depp's tribute to a buddy, Hunter S. Thompson, proved to have minimal mass market appeal ($5 million), despite the charismatic Mr. Depp. It attracted virtually no young people, and the older people didn't much care for it. "Audiences, which were 88 percent above the age of 25, gave The Rum Diary a harsh C CinemaScore grade, so it’s not likely to hold well in future weeks."

All of the numbers are probably softer than expected because of the undriveable roads and power outages in the Northeast.
