(Projections in parens)

Paranormal Activity 3 put up some monstrous numbers for this time of year, scoring an opening day of $26 million. I believe that is the all-time record for the highest single October day. PA3 will come close to doubling even the most optimistic weekend projections ($34-$36), and seems poised to become the highest grossing October opener in history. The current record for an opening weekend in October is only $50M.

Far behind, in fourth place this week, was The 3-D Musketeers with $3 million, which will leave it far behind expectations. ($12-$13)

Still farther behind, almost invisible in the distance, was the Johnny English sequel. Its gross of $1 million was barely enough to win eighth place, and dooms it to finish about half as high as predictions which were modest to begin with. ($5-$6)
