Kim Kardashian is booed at her own birthday party

And she wasn't even in Philadelphia.

If you don't know the reference, baseball fans say that Philadelphia is the only city where they boo the kids who don't find any Easter eggs.

According to my dad, Danny 'Suits' Sparrow, the home crowd in Philly once booed him in the bottom of the ninth for hitting a ground rule double to tie the game when a homer would have won it. Not that it mattered in the long run, because he promptly stole third and home.

If you're not familiar with my dad's legendary career, here is a compilation of his yarns.

I wrote about the real Danny, in the last few paragraphs of my review of Big Fish.

Damn, I miss that guy.

  1. You may think the reference is hyperbole, but it's not (at least not much). And it's not limited to sports. The only known occasion when Bruce Springsteen was booed off the stage was when he opened for Chicago at the Spectrum in 1973. The irony is even more acute considering his eventual extreme popularity there (the last I heard, there are still only two banners commemorating record concert sellouts amongst the retired numbers hanging from the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center: his and Billy Joel's).
