Boston Red Sox going after free agent Carlos Beltran (??)

Boston Red Sox going after free agent Carlos Beltran

They have no problems scoring runs. They finished 1st in the majors in runs scored, but 21st in runs allowed. Lackey will miss all of next year after Tommy John surgery, but his 6.41 ERA will not be missed. I assume that they'll let Wakefield go to free agency or retirement after two consecutive seasons with 5+ ERAs. Dice K is a giant question mark, having gone 16-15 and undergone surgery since his brilliant 2008 year. That means they only have two proven starters.

If I were their GM I would fill right field with the bargain-priced Reddick and look to spend my serious dough on some arms. Of course the rival Yankees, seeing the Sox' Achilles heel and flush with the ol' do-re-mi, will try to pre-empt that strategy. They're already starting talks with C.J. Wilson, Buehrle, Edwin Jackson and Oswalt.
