I thought the Muppets might kick some ass on Saturday, but they were no match for the teenage vampires. The fanged adolescents dropped a precipitous 70%, but they had such a high starting point that even 30% of their former total was easily enough for first place.
The Muppets grossed $30M for three days, $42M for five days.
Arthur Christmas and Hugo were about even in a battle for fourth place, behind Happy Feet Two, which showed a strong retention rate and held third.
Clooney's movie expanded to 400 theaters and did quite well, grossing $16,000 per theater and sneaking into the top ten by edging out J. Edgar, despite being in 1/5 as many theaters as the ol' racket buster.
Strange stat o' the week: Tower Heist took in 3% more than last week, despite being in 468 fewer theaters. I got nothin' to explain that one.
